Back to the past - the origins of the brand

adidas was first founded in 1924. This is when the Dassler brothers had an idea to start a footwear factory. Four years later they had their first success – Lina Radke, a German athlete, set the 800 m world record while wearing their shoes. When World War II broke out, the brand started manufacturing footwear for soldiers.

In 1948 the Dassler brothers made a decision to split up and go their own ways. One year later Adolf created his own brand, sporting the characteristic three stripes on the side. The history of the brand is dotted with the successes of athletes who made it famous. In the late 1960s Adolf Dassler launched the first adidas brown, and in 1970 he designed the first ball for the FIFA World Cup.
